Dr. Burns Cheadle. P.Geo., CPG, Ph.D.

Director, Science Professionalism and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Science

Dr. Burns Cheadle is an Associate Professor of Petroleum Geology in the Department of Earth Sciences, and Director of Science Professionalism & Entrepreneurship for the Faculty of Science at Western University. He received his Ph.D. in Geology from Western University in 1986 and went on to a career in the upstream oil and gas sector in Calgary. In 2009, Burns returned to Western to develop a teaching and research program in petroleum geology. Since 2015, his role expanded to leadership of a program to help Western Science students develop their professional identity through various experiential learning activities and industry partnerships.

Burns is on the leadership team for Western Entrepreneurship, and the Executive Committee for the Masters in Management of Applied Science (MMASc) program. Burns also teaches the Consulting Project course for the MMASc program, and is frequently invited to speak to student groups on facets of professional development.

David Sumpton, BASc, MBA, M. Eng., P.Eng., PMP, CSSBB, CQE, CISA

David Sumpton is an Assistant Professor, Western Engineering, and Professor - Project Management, Fanshawe College. His teaching focus is Engineering Business, Ethics, Project Leadership & Strategy, and Project Recovery. Expertise includes corporate finance & capital budgeting. Research interests include physical asset management, and business sustainability. David holds an Ivey MBA, a Masters of Engineering, and is a licensed Professional Engineer.

Dr. Iffat Jabeen PhD

Director, Sponsorship and Partnerships at PMI SWOC

Dr. Jabeen is a Scientist with extensive experience in project management at global institutions. She is an isotope geo-cosmochemist and loves to study Earth and Space materials. She has earned post doctorates from University of Tokyo and University of Toronto and has served Western University as a Research Scientist. She has several international publications in space science. Currently she is volunteering with PMI local Chapter based in London at different project management portfolios as well as running collaborative scientific research projects with Oman, Japan and Korea. She will talk about future job streams in the field of science that involves project management and benefits of being project management professional to be a successful scientist. She will tell about how involving with PMI SWOC as volunteer can help students in their career search and enrichment.
